You can dream things that you have never seen or done and because you are capable of anything you want to work for, all you have to do is imagine it and hope...

Think about the future....
think about the wonders all around you... think about the possibilities... YOUR TASK; Write out and draw the hopes you have for tomorrow, next month, next year, high school or when you grow up. Don't give yourself any limits!

We have been working in this online format for almost 12 weeks. You have grown your digital skills. We want to know what you think and we want you to send it to us in an email or in Teams. Use your best spelling, your best punctuation, your most detailed explanations and your school email or team's chat. We as your teacher's will be happy to be done marking and just read what you have to say. Thanks for writing!

When you tell me a story about what happened, you usually tell it in the PAST tense. For example:
I ate ice cream. Watch this video to listen to how the PAST tense sounds. |
When you are telling me about right now, you are using the PRESENT tense. For example:
I am eating ice cream. Watch this video to listen to how the PRESENT tense sounds. |
When you are telling me about what is going to happen, you are using the FUTURE tense. For example:
I will eat ice cream. Watch this video to listen to how the FUTURE tense sounds. |

A paragraph is a short piece of writing. It is often 5-7 sentences long and it includes:
|
The paragraph above is all about Anna. If I were writing about someone we know, like Miss Delong, I would want to talk about her cool personality, the kind of friend that she is or what makes her a great teacher. These are all ideas about Miss Delong and they would all be connected in one speech but they are each their own topic and each topic should have it’s own paragraph. For example see the paragraph on the right, where the topic is her cool personality.
Your Task is:
Write a positive paragraph about someone we all know. If you want to write about Miss Delong too, then you can pick one of the other topics, like what makes her a great teacher. Remember that all of the sentences should connect to each other. In my paragraph all the sentences support the idea of how cool Miss Delong is. I can't wait to see what wonderful things you write about someone from our Buchanan community. |
Miss Delong is so cool. She is always very honest and real about what she thinks and what she likes. She is beautiful but she does not make a big deal about it. Even in jeans and and t-shirt she has a cool confidence and a friendly smile. When you first meet her, she looks you right in the eye and and accepts you. When she thinks something is weird or unexpected she says so and is able to ask smart questions to help her understand. She also finds humor in even the trickiest situations. Miss Delong’s sense of humor, and relaxed style means everyone likes to hang out with her.

Let's play & writeIf you play video games a lot, then you likely chat with friends at the same time. Who is this bearded dragon playing with? what game are they playing? and What would their chat stream look like? Your task is to create a screen shot or script of their chat. There is an example on the right. Your writing can be hand drawn or typed up.

For this weeks writing we want you to take a close look at what you have been writing over the past couple of months. Try to pick one of your longer & better pieces of writing. Look through the checklist below. Ask each questions out loud to yourself, then skim through that piece of your writing to find the answer. You can give yourself a checkmark when you can answer YES to the question. If you feel unsure, ask the questions and reread your writing with a more experienced writer, like mom or dad.

Last week Corina the Corgi had the worst day. She had been working on her life story, Corina's Courageous Adventures and had finished 5 more pages. She had decided to let her friend Lonald read through it, and give some suggestions. When he finished reading he told her to add more interesting and unique words and to stop use the words GOOD, COOL, & LIKE. Please help Corina. Find 5 interesting or unique words and use them in a short adventure story about Corina the Corgi. Don't use the three boring words above (good, cool, or like) Make sure that you check a dictionary or online so that you spell and use your 5 words correctly.

Love no matter what....
Sunday the 10th is Mother's Day and even though we drive them crazy sometimes, our moms, grandmas, and aunties love us, and work hard to take care of us. This week, use pictures like these to create a meme and a story about why you can relate to the image of your meme. Think of a time when you were driving them crazy and describe the funny or interesting way that they reacted. |
This activity is similar to the virtual field trips, except this time you will describe something that you eat, in detail, and then send the sentences to your teacher so they can guess what you were eating. Use the button on the left to watch the recipe making, if you are interested.

This website has a Boggle-like game where you make words from the available letters. It is different from Boggle because the letters do not have to be touching for the word to work.
After you type in a word click on enter, then keep going. You have 3 minutes to get as many points as possible. Longer words are worth more points but works like 'at' count too so lots of short words gets plenty of points also. |
Questions & Answers LIVE! - Headlines from My House
A few weeks ago, many of you did the Question – Answer activity. You picked a topic, created some questions and then answered them. This time you will pretend that you are a reporter for T.V. news. As a reporter you will ‘visit’ your house or your backyard and interview someone LIVE. First, you must think of some questions. Get creative, but 5-10 questions should be enough. You don’t have to ask all of them, but you do need to listen to their answers. When writing questions, decide who would let you interview them, and create questions that fit well with this person’s interests. My Example questions:
|
As you might have guessed, I’m thinking about interviewing someone in my house who is cooking. You can do the same or pick a different place or person or pet 😉
Practice asking the questions and then with a clipboard or a camera in hand interview that person and record their answers. You should write or type your questions & their answers OR you can just write out a rough copy of questions and then record a video of your interview. Watch my example video below. When you are done your interview, just hand it in by email or teams. Or if you have a YouTube account, upload it and send the link in to your teacher. Cooking Eggs at Clark's House! |
What story is this relaxed, old, dog telling you? There is a lot of talking in this space and it starts with,
There was this one time when I was young.... Finish this sentence and add a few more. Maybe he did something mischievous, maybe he had an adventure with the other puppies or maybe he is fondly remembering his owner. Remember to write as if the dog is speaking out loud to you in the speech balloon. |

Example:
Would you rather go to Disneyland or Hawaii? I would rather go to Hawaii because I love water and the ocean and Hawaii is surrounded by the ocean. I would also rather go to Hawaii because I hate waiting in line-ups and Disneyland has such long line-ups. I also like Hawaii better because of the waterfalls and jungles like the ones in this picture. |
